British Nigerian native Deoba is an alternative Hip-Hop artist hailing from South London, and he brings to the UK rap landscape, a unique and creative slant of Hip-Hop Music, as is evident on his debut EP titled Chillogy, which we are excited to premiere right here on We Plug Good Music, before it is released on iTunes and Spotify tomorrow.
The record is held together by Deoba’s smooth rap flow and delivery, as well as his intelligent wordplay and cinematic storytelling, over musical backdrops that can be best described as atmospheric, experiential and mellow. The 6-track Chillogy EP is not like anything we’ve heard released in the UK rap scene this year, and we definitely recommend you checking this one out below.
Conceptually, the record follows an imaginative relationship between two protagonist Melo and Nicole, who are introduced on the EP’s opening track “Chillogy (Prologue)” and “Whats Up” which follows on from that. The tale of human desire and emotions, which listeners will be able to relate to, weave its way into “Henny & Chill” featuring Toronto rapper/singer Culture ’95, and the most emotive song on the record “Melo’s Interlude“.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the EP, Deoba says, “‘Chillogy’ is me trying to create a world where my listeners understand the everything of words. I wanted to, in the most creative ways, paint a picture of my life experiences that my listeners could relate to, using these two conceptual characters ‘Melo’ and ‘Nicole’ to explore human desire and emotions, while still providing good music to listen to, anyway”.
Serving as the perfect record for those cold night and after-hours playlists, released just in time as the summer begins to give way to the autumn, Deoba has crafted a stellar debut offering, which is underpinned by his smooth rap flow, strong storytelling and atmospheric instrumentation, which together, create the most chill and relaxed vibe for listeners, as the title of the EP ‘Chillogy’ aptly suggests.
