In a week that ushered in the final month of 2014, and where the nominees for the 57th annual Grammy Awards were announced, with Beyonce becoming the most nominated female in Grammy Awards history with 52 nominations, and Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran heading the British onslaught on the American award ceremony, here are our favourite new releases of the week ending December 7. Yuna – “Broke Her”
You will recognize the sample at the beginning as the same one on Drake’s “0 To 100″ but apart from that, nothing ties these two records together. Amazing Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna Zara’ai debuts the brand new music video for her latest single “Broke Her”, and it is a beautiful affair. The song itself is quite sad lyrically, with a hint of positivity at the end of it all, like with most of our favourite Yuna songs. Enjoy this one below, the visuals were directed by Samuel O’Melia.
“The first time I heard Adam Feeney and Chester Stone Hansen’s ‘Vibez’ it was used in Drake’s ’0-100′ as a sample, we found the original song and I immediately loved it, it was really beautiful and I was singing random words to it and thought I should record this. I finally wrote a full song to it and recorded the vocals in my bedroom by myself” – Yuna
RÉN – “Time”
RÉN, whose real name is Renée Orshan, has put out the music video for her unavoidably likeable track “Time”. This song has a groovy funk style and prophetic lyrics like, “and people say that people change in time. The others say you live, you learn, you die”. The video uses a variety of really cool effects to distort images and create shapes while simultaneously showing Orshan in various places around New York City. Charli XCX – “Breaking Up”
Enjoy the brand new visuals for “Breaking Up”, the latest single from Charli XCX from her upcoming album Sucker. The video was directed by BRTHR and commissioned by Dan Curwin. Royce Wood Junior – “The Basin”
A track that would keep everyone in the club staying up to the daylight hours; “The Basin” by Royce Wood Junior. The Londoner has released the grooviest song from his latest EP Rover, a track full of colour, character and cracking vibes. Breaking away from the previous two songs he released from the EP “January Time” and title track “Rover”, which were more serious and abstract, “The Basin” is more playful and immature, in a good way. A groovy bass line with quirky buzzes and body bobbing wonk. Royce’s EP Rover, is out now on iTunes and his debut full length The Ashen Tang is out next year.
