Best New Music Of The Week // January 21 – January 27, 2019

Jade Bird – “I Get No Joy”

Is nineties music making a return? And by that I mean nineties rock, not classic RnB.

Jade Bird released her new track “I Get No Joy”, and I’m getting serious Rasputina vibes from her. The song has a similar beat to Transylvanian Concubine”, twisted with fresher countrified vibes, so Jade is set to be big this 2019.

The return of band music is seriously something we’ve been lacking in music for the past few years, and I’m hoping there are a few more bands like this that make it to the charts.

With similar vocals to Bif Naked, Jade can’t go wrong. And it’ll only be a matter of time before her name becomes a household one.

She also has an upcoming album releasing on April 19, self titled The Debut Album, so if you like this song, be sure to check that out when it releases.

Listen here:

Adam French – “The Only Living Thing”

Following two solid EP releases that put him on the radars of a diverse number of icons and tastemakers, self-taught multi-instrumentalist Adam French has dropped his incredible new track and visuals for “The Only Living Thing”, the second release from his upcoming debut album.

Starring actor Charley Palmer Rothwell, it’s another subtle, melodic thing of beauty, lyrically breaking down relationships and the love and pain dynamic within them. There’s also a knowing nod to mental health issues and loneliness, as the protagonist clearly and actively struggles throughout the video, making this a measured and sensitive statement.

Speaking on the track, Adam states: “The track is about realisation, that everything you previously had was all that you ever needed and more. Two people sharing the same pain, coming to terms with the fact that they might need to look backwards in order to move forwards…”

“Love is an interesting beast. I’ve always been fond of videos that tell love stories in interesting ways, but this one’s different for so many reasons. I’m sure a lot of people can relate to longing for companionship.”

After spending the last year honing his sound in the studio with producer Rich Cooper, Adam’s new release is another powerful, sensitive statement of the levels of talent this young man possesses. Get ready to hear a lot more from him in 2019.

Desiigner + Dave East – “RIICH”

Desiigner has now returned with another fresh new single titled “RIICH” to start off the year.

American rapper, songwriter and record producer Desiigner has joined forces with Dave East to produce this brand new track. “RIICH” is produced by HitMakerDot and Chuck Taylor and definitely sounds like the next popular track you will hear in the nightclub.

Desiigner and Dave East rap their verses as the vocals are accompanied by the iconic hip hop instrumentation with a bass-heavy beat.

“Stack all the fifty’s and hundred’s, the ten’s and the twenty’s, I get them. Jump out the whip, take a pic with my gun. I got so much to pitch, I can’t leave till it’s done”, Dave East raps.

The last project that Desiigner had dropped was in May, 2018 titled L.O.D. The artist had then closed out 2018 with the collaborative single with Lil Pump called “Overseas”. The rapper has definitely started out the year strong and we look forward to see what he has in store for his fans in the near future.

“RIICH” might become one of Desiigner’s best recordings since his chart-topping hit single “Panda”. Make sure to check out the banger below.

Soulja Boy + Asian Doll + A$AP Ferg – “In My Pocket”

Soulja Boy has returned with some new music. Today, he has released another banger titled “In My Pocket”.

The artist has joined forces with 1017 Records signee Asian Doll and A$AP Ferg to create this fresh single. The three artists express their talents as they rap their individual verses over the iconic hip hop instrumentation which consists of a bass-heavy beat.

Soulja Boy has previously collaborated with Lil Yachty and Rich The Kid and produced the track “We Goin’ Up”. A$AP Ferg had just recently joined on stage at Yams Day in York New. And now the artists are back with “In My Pocket”.

The banger was recorded just a couple of days ago. It is definitely a tune you will hear in the nightclub. Make sure to check it out below.

Samm Henshaw + EARTHGANG – “Church”

Tipped as One To Watch in 2019 by tastemakers aplenty, fast-rising talent Samm Henshaw has shared the official lyric video for his infectious new single, “Church” featuring EARTHGANG from J. Cole’s Dreamville imprint.

Hypnotic and heavenly, Samm’s robust delivery glides over a stomping groove and bluesy beat before culminating on the commanding chant, “Wake up and get yourself to church, yeah!”

With a meaning deeper than surface, The song’s written from the perspective of a younger, teenage Samm and addresses the idea of finding one’s own identity within a religious household, but with a lot of fun and swagger and a ‘if you know, you know’ relatability.

Samm describes this as: “My fight with my parents was, ‘Listen, if you really want me to be into this, and get it, let me do it for myself.’ But eventually in my own time, I found my way back. Now, I go pretty much every Sunday!”

Mr Eazi + Burna Boy – “Miss You Bad”

Mr Eazi kicks off 2019 by dropping yet another visual, this time the Burna Boy assisted “Miss You Bad” from his highly coveted mixtape Life is Eazi, Vol. 2 – Lagos To London.

Sultry guitar solos and relatable lyrics has made “Miss You Bad” a crowd favourite – not to mention the feature from fellow Nigerian artist Burna Boy – so it comes as no surprise that it gets the video treatment. Set in an eclectic apartment displaying beautiful African prints and women, both artists take turns in declaring their regrets within their relationships.

Eazi comments on the track: Miss You Bad” is actually an old song that I rediscovered recently, I wrote the hook in 2016. . More recently I was in London, I had the guitar riff and I started to freestyle the hook. Or I thought it was a freestyle. I sent it to my friend, who also is an A&R for my label and he was like, ‘I remember this hook from 2016!”
