We Plug To You… Stuart Newman

Mellow Indie Folk/Rock singer Stuart Newman is a largely self-taught musician. Starting out first with a piano and a guitar, he began writing songs and experimented with his home recording techniques during his University years. His music is reminiscent to the chilled-out but soulful Folk and acoustic music of America and he could be described as a miscellaneous mix of Elvis Presley andNirvana. His musical influences range from The BeatlesSimon and GarfunkelRadiohead to Feeder, Queens of the Stone AgeGreen Day andMy Chemical Romance.
In 2010, Stuart made the transition from home recording to the recording studio to record the songs “Head Hurts”, “Pandora” and “The Decade”. It was later that year when he returned to the studio for the second time to record further material that “Feel the Temperature Rising” – a track which was played on BBC Introducing: The South in June 2011 and was featured as Brighton’s Argus Download of the Week – was recorded. Speaking of the move from home production to recording studio, he said, “I went into the studio to move my creative ambitions forward, and I did. I wanted a sound that matched my progression as a songwriter and captured my progresses and hinted at things to come. In my opinion, I got that”.

Stuart describes his music as acoustic, mellow indie Folk-Rock, but his talents span across a variety of musical genres. For example, “We’re Living In Another Dimension” is a track that could be comparable to 90’s Britpop band Oasis, whereas “Cry Wolf” is reminiscent of Country-Folk legend, Johnny Cash. Living up to its name, “Feel The Temperature Rising” has a Rock and Roll Bluesy feel to it and the riffs and chorus definitely remind the listener of a famous singer who sang a song with similar lyrics back in the 70’s – “Burning Love” by Elvis – The King of Rock and Roll himself!

Newman has famously been featured on BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing: The South, after the success of his first acoustic-driven album, 2009’s Single But Defective which birthed the track “Cry Wolf”. “Cry Wolf” went on to receive massive airplay and support from the ever popular and revered Tom Robinson on his BBC 6 Music radio show. In September 2011, Stuart released “(We’re Living In) Another Dimension” as his latest single and has spent the last few months working on his second EP Bored of Idiot Chatter which is a self-released record and was recorded and mixed at the AudioBeach Studios in Brighton, UK.

Recently on May 18, Newman released a limited run of the EP and this EP – which is offered in either physical CD or MP3 download formats – is currently available to buy or download for FREE on the singer’s website and it includes three of Stuart’s well-acclaimed tracks, “(We’re Living In) Another Dimension”, “Feel The Temperature Rising” and “Cry Wolf” along with new cuts, “Head Hurts”, “51st State” and an alternative version of “Another Dimension”. You can listen to Stuart Newman’s music and buy or download the EP from his website and on YouTube.
