Just a few days after her third studio album, This Is How Tomorrow Moves, Beabadoobee put on an excellent and intimate album release show at the HMV Empire Coventry for all of her Midlands based fans. This acted as a celebration of the album’s release and as an appetiser for her world tour which starts in just a few weeks time.
Given the popularity of the album, it makes complete sense then, that the venue was full to the brim and the excitement was palpable. The HMV Empire proved to be the perfect location for this show, a venue that hosts a large variety of acts and occasions all of which perfectly allow the artist and crowd to be in perfect synchronicity.
Given her widespread acclaim, it wasn’t surprising to see a wide variety of audience members from all walks of life. Yes, there were parents with their children but they were enjoying it as much as the huddles of late teen girls, which only solidifies the quality of Beabadoobee’s music and her global reach.
As soon as Beabadoobee stepped out onto the stage with nothing more than a bar stool, acoustic guitars and her drummer & keyboard player, come musical partner in crime Luca Caruso. What followed was a captivating, stunning and intimate set that explored a variety of songs from her new album and fan favourites.
Fittingly opening the night with “Take A Bite”, the opening song from This Is How Tomorrow Moves, before continuing her set weaving between some album favourites such as “Girl Song”, “Coming Home” and “Everything I Want”.
Laced between each of these songs and a few other fan favourites, “Glue Song” and “The Perfect Pair”, were anecdotes about how each song was written, inspiration behind it and how she was feeling prior to her world tour.
This resulted in a touching, self reflecting and refreshingly honest outlook on a few days/months prior to a world tour which culminated with ‘This Is How It Went’, a similarly fitting end to the evening as this is the closing song to This Is How Tomorrow Moves.
All I can say is that I hope this stripped back, beautifully intimate gig was as touching and refreshing for Beabadoobee as it was for the massive crowd of loyal fans who hung on every word and pitched perfect notes in the suitably intimate venue.
