WPGM Reviews: The Driver Era Live At Eventim Apollo

The Driver Era’s ‘X Girlfriend’ tour got off to a great start with a sold-out show at London’s Eventim Apollo. The energy in the room was palpable even before the band hit the stage, with fans eagerly awaiting the sibling duo, Ross and Rocky Lynch.

As the lights dimmed and the band took their places, they opened the show with the unreleased track “Touch,” immediately igniting the crowd. This previously unheard song set the tone for the evening—a blend of electrifying rock and smooth, melodic transitions that the band has become known for.

Throughout the night, the band showcased two more unreleased tracks, including “I’ll Be There,” keeping fans on their toes with new material. Each new song seemed to expand the sonic landscape that The Driver Era has been cultivating, offering glimpses of the evolution of their sound.

The show wasn’t just about the new, though. For long-time fans, especially those who have followed Ross Lynch since his days on the Disney Channel, the highlight came when he revisited his roots by performing “On My Own” from Teen Beach Movie. The nostalgic number took the crowd back in time, resulting in a massive sing-along that left even newer fans appreciating the actor-turned-musician’s journey.

The setlist featured a well-curated mix of tracks from the band’s discography, such as “Fantasy” and “Preacher Man,” blending smooth pop rhythms with guitar-driven rock sounds. The energy never wavered as the band moved through a dynamic performance, with tracks like “Heart of Mine” and “Afterglow” creating brief interludes of emotional depth amidst the otherwise high-octane show.

As the night drew to a close, The Driver Era saved the best for last with their encore. Ross took to the stage once more for a powerful rendition of crowd favorite “Feel You Now,” which had the entire audience dancing and singing along to every word. The finale came with “A Kiss,” leaving the fans in a euphoric state as the night wrapped up on a high note.

From start to finish, the night was a testament to The Driver Era’s ability to blend genres, showcase new material, and still cater to their loyal fanbase with nostalgic touches. Ross and Rocky Lynch continue to captivate with their dynamic stage presence and genuine connection to their audience. With the promise of more unreleased tracks and fresh sounds on the horizon, I can’t wait to see how they take their new album on the road!
