On the back of a tumultuous time for The Hunna, the summer of 2024 could prove to be some of the most important gigs in their near decade long career but if they play each gig like they did at Leicester’s O2 Academy, there’s no cause for concern.
Opening the evening was newcomer Crispin, a young singer songwriter from Hertfordshire, who effortlessly eased the crowd into the night’s proceedings. With a handful of songs blending piano and guitar fused with a smooth soulful voice and hints of heavier rock beats, Crispin put on a great warm-up in his biggest show (so far).
The music combined with a charismatic self-awareness that not everyone will know his songs, thus providing guidance on what to sing, proves Crispin has a bright future in the music industry.
Shortly followed by Manchester based quintet Denver County Council, they acted as the perfect transition between the smooth voice of Crispin to the heavy rock of The Hunna, embodying both parts of the respective acts in an exciting combination.
With great skill Denver County Council were able to get the crowd rocking with their own rock songs, mixed with their energising on stage presence – it was hard to not get prepped for The Hunna.
With a couple of singles of their own as well as some live demos, Denver County Council are ones to watch for anyone looking for an up and coming rock band who can provide an exhilarating rock performance.
Surrounded by a sold out crowd, sporting many ‘The Hunna’ hoodies and t-shirts, the main act took to the stage and instantly the crowd were ecstatic. Straight out of the gate, the band and audience’s energy were in perfect synchronicity.
Ripping through highlights and fan favourites from their near decade old discography, from “Take A Ride (Lights, Camera, Action)”, “Fugazi”, pausing for the slightly slower “Babe Can I Call?” before a crescendo of hits including “She’s Casual”, The Hunna stole their own show.
With the sellout crowd’s unwavering support, this wasn’t lost on the band and a heartfelt thank you was expressed prior to the finale as they inferred the magnitude of going independent in the modern music industry.
As long as The Hunna keep delivering shows like this their support won’t waver and I hope that the future contains great things for the well established, well loved band and their fans are rewarded with an exciting future for the band.
