Vance Joy’s ‘In Our Own Sweet Time’ tour made its way to London’s Eventim Apollo on April 29th for a sold out show, and this was his only show in the UK, so anticipation was running high among his fans.
Joy’s unique blend of folk, pop, and indie rock, along with his heartfelt lyrics and emotive voice, captivated the crowd from start to finish. Opening with the uplifting “Missing Piece,” Joy set the tone for the rest of the night, showcasing his impeccable musicianship and stage presence.
From there, he went on to perform a selection of his most beloved tracks, including “Mess Is Mine,” “Like Gold,” and “Red Eye,” which had the audience singing along at the top of their lungs.
Throughout the show, Vance Joy’s vocals were pitch-perfect, and his guitar skills were on full display. He moved seamlessly between the upbeat “Saturday Sun” and the more melancholic “From Afar,” never missing a beat. The setlist was carefully crafted, and the crowd was treated to a mix of old favorites and new tracks.
Quick change, ukulele in his hands and as soon as the opening notes played, the entire venue erupted in cheers. No Vance Joy concert would be complete without his biggest hit, “Riptide” and the singalong was deafening.
There were also a few surprises in store, such as a mashup of ABBA’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)”, which he seamlessly blended with Madonna’s “Hung Up.” The audience went wild, and it was clear that everyone was having the time of their lives.
As the night drew to a close, Vance Joy brought the house down with “Lay It on Me,” and the audience was left wanting more. It was clear that he had given everything he had, and his fans appreciated every moment.
